Elderly-care in England criticised
Elderly home-care services in England have been criticised by the Care Quality Commission.
The regulator found that a quarter of the services provided to the elderly do not meet quality and safety standards, with the most common complaints related to late, rushed or missed visits.
The chief executive of the CQC, Dave Behan, said there was a particular problem with some patients' calls to staff being missed.
"If you’re waiting for intimate personal care such as washing, bathing and toileting a delayed call can have quite intimate and dramatic consequences if it doesn’t take place, so it’s really important that these things are got right and it’s not acceptable, we’re clear about that," he told the Today programme.
