Clegg warns on London focus
The UK economy needs to reduce its reliance on London, Nick Clegg will say later.
The Deputy Prime Minister will accuse previous governments of being “bewitched” by the City of London, and warn the UK needs more than one “jewel in the crown”.
Speaking at Mansion House, he will also attack Labour’s plans to reintroduce the 10p tax band as “blatant plagiarism” of Liberal Democrat policy.
Mr Clegg is under pressure from his own party to introduce fresh taxes on wealth in the 2015 manifesto, with a consultation document mooting several measures to be discussed at the Lib Dem spring conference.
