poor pensioner

What Police ? I have a few friends who used to be policemen and are now retired, they were mostly of the days when a cuff round the ear of a culprit was far more effective at a young age than a free foreign holiday and so called counselling. I hear of more and more Police Stations being closed, and wonder where the profit goes from the sale of same. As we have ever increasing Council Taxes, and the Police part of it always goes up like the Fire Service in addition, I do not feel I am getting value for money, and the alternative is to refuse to pay, and I suppose end up in a jail sentence with all provided. I would not have to pay anything at all then, and it would not be charged. What a ridiculous situation we have these days. Quite honestly I believe there are some excellent policemen around, the question is " Where are They?" We see lots of them on television working overtime at big events, we see even more of the Stasi mentality of other types of " Policemen" such as British Transport Police at mainline railway stations; with sometimes sniffer dogs and a coach load of extras sat outside waiting for trouble. It is not a pleasant experience. Are the Transport Police a special unit of the Police Force in general, who pays their wages, and who does not train the majority of station staff to be nice to people. They even have threatening adverts on Railway Stations warning you that if you complain about anything or anybody on the railway, you will be arrested and treated accordingly. Such is the extent of misuse of Freedom in this Country. The people who pay their bills, obey the laws, and try and not cause trouble are lumped in with the view that all of us are the same, just waiting for trouble, then causing havoc . It is not a nice period to live in the United Kingdom these days. So to trim down the Force will do more good than harm. Imagine seeing Policemen frequently on the beat again, and not on the odd occassion a poorly paid "Assistant part time Police Officer" who usually patrol not only in pairs and on bicycles, be seem to have to be politically correct in having one coloured and one white. A long cry from the days of Dixon of Dock Green, but in those days there was respect for people , including the Public. It was only when you were found guilty that you were rightly treated with the proper punishment. A good sort out of the Police Force will certainly not be before time. Too many of them never complete a normal career, because of early retirement from stress and ill health; but some who do are sometimes re=employed as "civilian" assistants in the office. Maybe they all do a good job, but that means besides an indexed linked pension they earn from their first job; they are given another well paid job to make a big addition to the cost of doing another one, plus having to pay for a full time police replacement for the vacancy they have left on retirement.
