Another example of top loaded , politically correct but common-sense- totally-absent system the police work to. Computers were supposed to release more police to be on the beat. Nowadays it is the police who are the automons reading ledger after ledger of what they should, should not, may do , and may not, don't upset and do upset style that in the end no one realises why Peel introduced them in the first place. Stop employing retired policemen in doing administrative jobs, when you can use civilian workers. If a policeman retires due to "stress", do not employ him in police work again. If a policeman retires normally, the above applies. The Country is sick of being targetted for motoring offences of minor nature, when the unseen majority of the Police are seemingly sitting at computers, or candle lit Dickensian style offices, preparing reports on every item under the sun, all in order to meet targets. The target is simple, and should be non political, and it is " CATCH THE CRIMINAL ". The only trouble is that when the Criminal goes to Court, nine out of ten times he will receive a little reprimand and told not to be naughty again....! No incentive then there for a policeman to put himself out. Next we have the theory not to put them in prison for short sentences. The Police have helicoptors, sniffer dogs, fast cars, computers, guns, speeding checks and thousands of cameras all over the Country. How much does all this cost if you are not going to bang the criminal inside. What is the point of it all. We hear that it costs something like £38,000 to keep a criminal in prison for a year. As an old age person, I am wondering if I should become a criminal, as my pension is nothing like this nor tax free. Where has the old standard of self respect and respect for others vanished to. Unless this is addressed urgently, we are heading straight back for a Civil War in the UK. It is not what politicians say they have done, or what they are going to do, the question they should answer is "Why has it not been done before the horse has bolted."
