The Law Commission is the statutory independent body created by the Law Commissions Act 1965 to keep the law of England and Wales under review and recommend reform where it is needed. The aim of the Commission is to ensure that the law is:

• fair
• modern
• simple, and
• as cost effective as possible.

Since the Law Commission was established in 1965 we have produced more than 200 law reform reports, over 65% of which have been implemented in whole or in part, and instigated the repeal of more than 3,000 Acts of Parliament.

We actively encourage responses to our consultations. We are committed to ensuring that our work is informed by the knowledge and experience of the people who work in and with the law, and those whose lives, businesses and other enterprises are shaped by it.
