Michael Fabricant: UK rules around homosexuals giving blood are illogical
Michael Fabricant called for a fresh look at regulations which mean that gay men who want to give blood have to be monogamous for at least twelve months.
“Of course the safety of people who receive blood must be paramount, so we must get that clear. What it is about is just common sense. It isn’t common sense to have a straight guy, who might be having unsafe sex, two or three times a night with different women, who he has not met before, who can give blood. And yet a gay guy, who might be in a monotonous relationship, having safe sex with his partner, is forbidden from doing so, for 12 months.
