George Osborne: Why is the BBC afraid of Ofcom regulation?
George Osborne has suggested the BBC should be regulated by Ofcom.
Speaking to the Radio Times, the Chancellor said the existing system, which sees the corporation regulated by the BBC Trust, “has never really worked”.
He went on to suggest the BBC should be subject to the same regulator as other broadcasters:
“I’ve never understood why the BBC is so frightened of regulation by Ofcom…But it’s not as if ITV is poorly regulated. Ofcom has proved itself to be a robust regulator.”
