Catherine Windibank, business development manager at Richard Jackson Ltd, became Midlands regional chair of the National Federation of Builders (NFB) on Thursday 8 June at the NFB annual general meeting (AGM).

The AGM saw the outgoing NFB Midlands regional chair, Neil Walters, become national chair of the NFB. With Neil Walters taking on the role of NFB national chair, a new Midlands regional chair needed to be appointed. Catherine Windibank was happy to be put forward and was nominated for this position.

As the business development manager of engineering consultancy and chartered building surveyors Richard Jackson Ltd, Catherine is the first woman to have held the role as the NFB Midlands regional chair, enabling her to inspire other women and promote diversity within construction.

Windibank said: “I am honoured that the NFB has made me the new Midlands regional chair. During my time in post I will work towards tackling the skills crisis, as it is a fundamental step in driving economic growth and promote conditions our members and SMEs need to thrive.

“The current skills shortage is one of the biggest challenges facing the construction industry today, as the sector continues to struggle to meet the demand for skilled professionals. We need to focus on training and developing local talent. I will strive to promote careers in construction across the Midlands and overcome the major shortage of skills in the construction industry.”

At time of appointment, Windibank was working as business development manager for Warwickshire-based maintenance, refurbishment and construction company Arden Construction Ltd.
