Insuring the future of the profession
The initiative is run by the CII’s Faculties and is intended to support the retention of talent and develop tomorrow's insurance stars in claims, underwriting, broking and the London Market. Designed to complement existing company talent programmes, the year-long CPD initiative provides members with a range of learning opportunities. These include an interactive session with key FCA personnel, meetings with MPs and trade bodies and a visit to the Houses of Parliament. Participants will also benefit from media training and a series of informal networking opportunities.
Each of the four groups will be asked to identify and complete a project that they believe will enhance the reputation of the profession and improve customer outcomes.
Last year’s groups are looking at a range of topical issues with their outputs due in the autumn, and those groups who finished the programme last autumn have already made a real impact. The Claims Faculty New Generation team, for example, have already been shortlisted for a number of awards for their project revolved around the Riot Act which included working closely with the Home Office and the Underwriting New Generation report on vulnerable customers has also inspired an industry campaign.
Ant Gould, CII director of faculties, said: "We’re now into the sixth year of the New Generation programme and it is incredible some of the inspiring projects and initiatives we’ve seen over the years and in particular to witness how those taking part have developed and enhanced their own careers, their own networks and importantly their understanding of how to collaborate with their peers.”

Working with stakeholders such as the ABI, the Home Office, the Metropolitan Police and CILA has really broadened my understanding of how insurance plays a vital part in our society. In addition to that, I’ve met people from different companies from across the country and widened my network of peers. The programme has allowed me to grow professionally and learn valuable skills for the future – I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who was considering applying.”

The media training is like no training I have had the opportunity to receive before, fun, interactive and vastly relevant in supporting my career outside of just handling the media. “
Applicants for this year's programme, which starts in the autumn, must be members of the appropriate CII faculty, have between five to ten years insurance experience and be qualified to at least DipCII level.
