Skills shortages in some sectors seem to be a growing problem, warns KPMG

KPMG LLP

1 min read

James Stewart, Head of Brexit at KPMG UK comments on today’s ONS migration data.

Although net migration is on a slight upwards trajectory again what we’re hearing from the market is that sectors such as construction, food production, retail and hospitality are all struggling to find affordable labour, and costs are climbing.

A slowing of the supply of EU workers is being offset by an increase in non-EU migration, which is now at the highest level we’ve seen since 2010.  Despite this, the skills shortages we’re witnessing in some sectors seem to be a growing problem.
