Nick Clegg: EU army is a 'dangerous fantasy'
The idea has been mooted by the president of the Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, who told a German paper there could be a "common army among the Europeans" to bolster the continent against Russian aggression.
Ukip leader Nigel Farage reacted angrily to the prospect, but Mr Clegg insisted there was absolutely no way that such a force would be created.
"I actually so happen to think that Jean-Claude Junker and Nigel Farage are both dangerous fantasists when it comes to this issue. It's not going to happen, it doesn't matter whether Nigel Farage says it's going to happen or Jean Claude Juncker...he [Juncker] can't create a European army," Mr Clegg told his phone-in on LBC radio.
