Save the Children welcomes the International Development Committee’s new report, which recognises the devastating impact that the conflict in Yemen has on children.

Kirsty McNeill, Director of Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns at Save the Children, says: “Save the Children welcomes the International Development Committee’s recognition of the devastating impact that the conflict in Yemen has on children, and the need for increased funding to address their humanitarian needs. We support the IDC’s recommendation that the government should back the establishment of independent, international investigations into allegations of violations of international humanitarian law, and to call on all parties to stop the use of explosive weapons in populated areas. We also recommend that the Government consider urgently suspending all sales of arms to Saudi Arabia until there is evidence that there is no risk that they could be used to commit violations of IHL in Yemen. In the long run, the peace talks currently taking place in Kuwait are the best hope for ending this brutal conflict, but immediate action on the IDC’s recommendations would save lives now and help to end children’s suffering in Yemen.”
