New appointments this week in UK politics, the civil service and public affairs

Houses of Parliament:

House of Lords

Lord Patel of Blackburn (Labour, Life Peer) died on 29th May.

House of Commons

Lisa Forbes elected as the Labour MP for Peterborough in the 6th June by-election.

Government Departments:

Department of Health and Social Care

Chris Whitty to replace Sally Davies as Chief Medical Officer for England and the UK government’s Chief Medical Adviser.

Cabinet Office

Senior Salaries Review Body – Sharon Witherspoon reappointed as a member.

House of Lords Appointments Commission – Lord Chartres, Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle and Charles Moore named as Independent Members.

Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

Office of Communications – Sharon White to stand down as Chief Executive at the end of the year.

Charity Commission – Paul Martin reappointed to the Board.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Kumar Iyer to become Chief Economist in July.

Owen Jenkins has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia and non-resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

Karen Bell has been appointed High Commissioner to the Republic of Vanuatu.

Non-Ministerial Departments

Crown Prosecution Service – Rebecca Lawrence to become Chief Executive in September, replacing Paul Staff who is in the role on an interim basis.

Parties:

Conservative Party

Theresa May stepped down as Leader of the Party on 7th June.

Devolved Authorities:

Welsh Government

Social Care Wales Board - Michael Giannasi to become Chair from 1st August and - Maria Battle and Trystan Pritchard become members from 1st July.

Scottish Parliament

Parliamentary Bureau – Rhoda Grant replaced Neil Findlay as a member.
