Alzheimer’s Society comments on CQC new five year strategy


The Care Quality Commission (CQC) today (Tuesday 24th) publishes its strategy for 2016 to 2021, setting out its vision for a 'more targeted, responsive and collaborative approach to regulation' so more people get better quality care.

Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Society said: “Thousands of people with dementia are being badly let down by the health and social care system. Our Fix Dementia Care campaign uncovered that many are receiving a second-class service in hospitals and care homes.

“We welcome the new CQC strategy as it changes the approach – by inspecting wider population groups and geographical areas CQC should be better able to highlight how far health and care services work together for people with dementia and their carers. Improved collection and use of data is crucial to expose and address the inequalities people with dementia face.

“It’s good to see CQC emphasising the need to talk to people using services. New approaches are needed to ensure the experiences of people affected by dementia are properly recorded and acted upon.”
