Ahead of Philip Hammond's first Spring Statement, Hft, a charity that supports adults with learning disabilities, is calling on the Chancellor to provide clarity on the government's planned "parallel body of work" on the future funding of social care.

Billy Davis, Public Affairs and Policy Manager, commented: "According to our latest Sector Pulse Check report, the number of providers running at a deficit has more than trebled since 2016/17, with 34% of providers reporting a loss, compared to 11% last year.

“Learning disability accounts for over one third of adult social care spend in England. With the government's Green Paper focusing solely on elderly care, the need has never been greater for the government to flesh out its thinking on the future funding of care for some of the most vulnerable adults in our society. We call on the Chancellor to use his first Spring Statement as on opportunity to set out their vision."
