Lobby briefing: Theresa May committed to bringing migration down to tens of thousands
The Prime Minister's spokesman said Theresa May remained committed to bringing migration down to "the tens of thousands".
The spokesman said: "The Prime Minister said yesterday she is committed to reducing net migration to sustainable levels, the Prime Minister has always been clear that sustainable levels are the tens of thousands.
"We’ve always also been clear we want to attract the brightest and the best to give the economy the skills that it needs."
He made clear there had not been a change in government policy on including students in migration figures.
"There's no change at all to the Government position on the inclusion of students in official immigration figures. The international definition of immigrants is clear and it's anyone who comes to the UK for 12 months or more, no change."
