Police forces must “fundamentally” improve their approach to child abuse after more than a third cases were found to be handled inadequately.

A report by the Inspectorate of Constabulary found 220 cases out of 576 across eight forces since 2013 received an “inadequate" response.

The National Police Chiefs council accepted forces must “fundamentally change” their approach, while the Home Office assured police they would receive the necessary resources.
