Rachel Tuffin, director at the College of Policing has commented on today's crime statistics.

While it is encouraging that some trends continue downwards, it is concerning to see early statistics in fraud and computer misuse suggesting the volume could almost equal the number of all other incidents, given the impact for victims and policing.

"Similarly, the recorded increases in low volume, high harm areas such as homicide and knife crime are a potential cause of concern. We are supporting officers and staff by providing the best available evidence, standards and development opportunities to meet these challenges, and the wider pressures they face in mental health, historical cases and maintaining their own resilience.

"At the same time, we continue to see the public recognise the work our members do, as trust and confidence in policing has been steadily rising to its highest rating in recent years."
