Donald Trump accuses Scotland Yard of failing to stop Parsons Green bomber

3 min read

Donald Trump has accused Scotland Yard of failing to stop the Parsons Green bomber from carrying out the attack.

The US President said the perpetrator - who is believed to be still at large - had been "in the sights of Scotland Yard" but that they should have been more "proactive" in stopping them.

He made the accusation in a tweet within hours of the attack on an early-morning Tube train.

Eighteen people have been taken to hospital, most for treatment to "flash burns", after an improvised explosive device exploded as the train approached the station in south west London at approximately 8.20.

In a clear breach of diplomatic protocol, President Trump appeared to divulge sensitive intelligence passed to him by the UK to his 38.3 million Twitter followers.

He then went on to use the incident as further evidence of why his controversial plan to ban visitors to the USA from Muslim-majority countries should be extended, and hail the anti-terror measures that he has pursued since entering the White House in January.

Nick Timothy, Theresa May's former joint-chief of staff, criticised President Trump.

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has urged the public to "keep calm" following the terror attack.

Theresa May has returned to Downing Street from her Maidenhead constituency to chair a meeting of the Government's emergency Cobra committee.

In a statement, the Prime Minister said: "My thoughts are with those injured at Parsons Green and the emergency services who, once again are responding swiftly and bravely to a suspected terrorist incident."

The terror attack is just the latest to hit the UK this year, with outrages also taking place at Westminster and Tower Bridge in London, and at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester."
