Boris Johnson 'fed up' over 'allies' newspaper claims

2 min read

Boris Johnson has hit out after newspaper reports suggested he would refuse to move if Theresa May reshuffles her Cabinet.

The Sun and the Daily Telegraph both quote "allies" of Mr Johnson saying he would reject any attempt from the Prime Minister to move him from the Foreign Office.

One figure quoted in the Telegraph said removing the controversial minister would go down "like a bucket of cold sick".

But this morning Mr Johnson told colleagues on the Tory MPs' WhatsApp group that he was not behind the stories. He even suggested the reports could be the work of "imposters".

He wrote to fellow MPs: "Folks I have just seen yet more stuff in the Telegraph and the Sun purporting to come from so called friends and allies of mine.

"I am frankly fed up to the back teeth of all this. I do not know who these people are.

"I do not know if they are really my friends and allies or if they represent some sinister band of imposters.

"I heartily disagree with the sense, tone and spirit of what they are saying."

Chancellor Philip Hammond is also the subject of speculation this morning, with an unnamed Cabinet minister tearing into the Chancellor this morning.

They told the Telegraph: "He has completely failed. He has not given her any domestic announcements that she can sell. He is miserable, he talks people down, he is making Brexit hard. He just saps everyone's self-confidence."

That prompted a riposte from an ally of Mr Hammond who said he was "not trying to frustrate the process at all".
