Former Coronation Street star in line to stand for Labour in Jo Cox's seat
Soap actress Tracy Brabin is in line to be the Labour candidate in the the seat which was held by the late MP Jo Cox.
The 55-year-old, who has appeared in Cornonation Street, Eastenders and Emmerdale, was a close friend of former Batley and Spen MP Mrs Cox, who was brutally killed outside a constituency surgery in June.
A source in the local Labour branch told the Sun that Ms Brabin was "nailed on" to win the nomination and would be "a very good fit".
“Tracy worked very closely with Jo on a number of local issues and is keen to carry on her work,” the source said.
“She’s well known locally, she grew up around here and is seen as the best candidate by the local Labour party.
It is up to Labour’s National Executive Committee to draw up a shortlist, with the constituency Labour party then voting for their preferred candidate.
No date has yet been set for the by-election, but it is expected to take place in October.
