Nick Clegg ‘to receive knighthood’ in New Year honours list

Nick Clegg is reportedly among figures to be handed a knighthood in the New Year honours list.
The former Liberal Democrat leader is to be given the gong in recognition of his time as deputy prime minister to David Cameron from 2010 to 2015, according to the Daily Mail.
Mr Clegg, who lost his Sheffield Hallam seat in June’s election, would join senior party figures including current leader Vince Cable and former coalition government minister Ed Davey in receiving the title of ‘Sir’.
Senior Lib Dem sources told the paper that the former MP was in line for the honour.
Since leaving Westminster, he has remained an active and ardent opponent of Britain leaving the EU and recently wrote a book titled: “How to stop Brexit”.
Mr Clegg has also called for a second referendum on the issue, asking voters to decide whether to accept the government’s final deal before quitting the bloc.
A Liberal Democrat spokesman told the paper: "We don’t comment on any honours list speculation."
