SNP politicians condemn John Cleese over 'racist' Twitter rant

SNP politicians have hit out at John Cleese after he claimed the media in England is run by "half-educated tenement Scots".

The Monty Python star also sparked anger by wrongly claiming that there are no English journalists in charge of Scottish newspaper.

He launched his attack - which was initially directed at Scottish-born Spectator editor Fraser Nelson - in a series of tweets last night.

His remarks immediately drew condemnation and mockery from SNP MPs and MSPs, who accused him of racism.











But Mr Cleese - who insisted only a "tiny percentage" of Scots are "rather chippy" - dismissed the racism accusations.
