Government Departments:
Lord Young of Cookham resigned as Government Spokesperson for HM Treasury and for the Cabinet Office, and as a Whip.
Ministry of Justice
Law Commission – Sarah Green appointed as Law Commissioner for Commercial and Common Law and Penney Lewis as Law Commissioner for Criminal Law.
Department for Work and Pensions
Industrial Injuries Advisory Council - Jennifer Hoyle and Lesley Francois appointed as independent members and Daniel Shears as a representative of employees.
Parties:
Scottish Conservatives
Jackson Carlaw is the Party Leader on an interim basis after Ruth Davidson resigned. There will be a leadership election later in the year.
Devolved Authorities:
Scottish Parliament
Beatrice Wishart elected as Liberal Democrat MSP for Shetland on 29th August.
Local Authorities:
Wirral Council – Paul Satoor appointed as Chief Executive on an interim basis, replacing Eric Robinson.
By-election Results 29th August
Bury West Council – Mike Smith elected for Radcliffe West – caused by the resignation of the Leader of the Council Rishi Shori - Radcliffe First gain from Labour.
South Lanarkshire – Grant Ferguson elected for East Kilbride Central North – caused by the death of Sheena Wardhaugh, who had been elected for the SNP but sat as independent from 2017 - SNP hold.
