New appointments this week in UK politics, the civil service and public affairs

Dods People draws together a list of this week's appointments in Westminster politics, all the devolved administrations and the public affairs sector.


Government Departments:

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Wilton Park – Gisela Stuart to become Chair on 1st October.

Ministry of Justice

Criminal Cases Review Commission – Helen Pitcher to become Chair on 1st November.

HM Prison and Probation Service – Michael Spurr to stand down as Chief Executive in March 2019.

Parole Board – Caroline Corby named as Chair, having been in the role on an interim basis.

Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

Science Museum Group - Sarah Staniforth, Steven Underwood, Iain McIntosh, Judith Donovan, Ajit Lalvani, Peter Hendy, Jo Foster and Hannah Fry appointed to the board.

Royal Museums Greenwich - Fiona Butcher, Julian Dowdeswell and Helen Czerski appointed respectively as Legal, Academic and Astronomer Trustees.

Ofcom – Maggie Carver named as Deputy Chair and Angela Dean as Audit and Risk board member.

Cabinet Office

Harry Rich replaced Alison White as Registrar of Consultant Lobbyists.

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

UK Research and Innovation – Tim Wheeler appointed as Director for International.

Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs

Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute - Maureen McKeague and Ian Buchanan reappointed as board members.

Non-Ministerial Departments

Competition and Markets Authority – Martin Coleman appointed as an Inquiry Chair and a Panel Chair and Kirstin Baker as an Inquiry Chair.

Ofgem – Martin Cave to become Chair on 1st October.

HM Revenue & Customs – Nick Lodge stood down as Director-General, Strategy.

Andrew Millar to be appointed as Chief Scientific Adviser for Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture.

Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee - Suzy Davies replaced David Melding as a member and Lee Waters and Dawn Bowden appointed as members.

External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee - David Melding replaced Suzy Davies, Mark Reckless replaced Mark Isherwood, Vikki Howells replaced Jenny Rathbone and Joyce Watson replaced Jack Sargeant as members.

Standards of Conduct Committee - Andrew RT Davies replaced Paul Davies as a member.

Public Accounts Committee - Jenny Rathbone replaced Vikki Howells and Jack Sareant replaced Lee Waters as members.

Health, Social Care & Sport Committee - Rhianon Passmore replaced Jayne Bryant as a member.

East Devon Council – Geoff Pratt elected for Ottery St Mary Rural – Independent East Devon Alliance hold. (Matt Coppell disqualified).

Winchester Council – Hugh Lumby elected for Upper Meon Valley – Conservative hold. (Amber Tresahar resigned).

Epsom and Ewell Council – Colin Keane elected for Nonsuch – Residents Association of Epsom and Ewell hold. (David Wood died).

Luton Council – Amy Nicholls elected for Limbury – Labour hold. (Jennifer Rowlands resigned).

Suffolk Coastal Council – Michael Gower elected for Wenhaston and Westleton – Conservative hold. (Raymond Catchpole died).

Wyre Forest Council – Anna Coleman elected for Bewdley and Rock – Conservative hold. (Rod Wilson died).

By-election Results 27th September

Nottingham Council – Roger Steel elected for Clifton North – Conservative gain from Labour. (Pat Ferguson resigned).

Lichfield Council – Angela Lax elected for Stowe – Conservative hold. (Joanne Grange resigned).

Salford Council – Mike McCusker elected for Eccles – Labour hold. (Peter Wheeler resigned).
