Disabled people "pushed out of political debate" - Scope responds to Queen's Speech

Mark Atkinson, Chief Executive at disability charity Scope, has responded to the Queen's Speech.

Disabled people are repeatedly excluded from the public debate on social care, and now they’ve been pushed out of the political one too.

While the Government has recognised the desperate situation the social care system is in, we are disappointed that plans are light on detail and fail to mention disabled people at all.

Disabled people frequently tell us they aren’t even getting the support to do the basics in life such as getting washed, getting dressed and leaving the house.

These issues cannot be ignored, disabled people are a third of social care users. Consultation and action must come quickly.
