Majority want English-only parliament - poll

England should have a separate parliament or assembly from the other UK countries according to a majority of poll respondents.

Over half of those asked agreed England should govern its own affairs in the same way as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with 23.2% saying they strongly agreed and 29.3 saying they agreed.

Those who would strongly invite the prospect were mostly older males and highly likely to be Conservative supporters, according to the survey conducted by
BMG Researchfor PoliticsHome.

Of the 1,009 people who took part online, only 12.6% disagreed, 3.4% strongly, with the remaining 34.9% unsure as to how they felt.

Those who strongly disagreed were more likely to be Labour supporters or living in Scotland or Wales.
