    Block Island wind farm, the first offshore development in the USA, has successfully reached financial close. Mott MacDonald was lenders’ technical advisor during the project’s due diligence phase and is now monitoring construction as independent engineer in an ongoing role.

    Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the Belgian Mobility and Transport Federal Public Services (FPS) to review plans to the European Train Control System (ETCS) on the country’s conventional and high speed rail network. ETCS is currently being rolled out across Europe to standardise train control and simplify cross-border rail travel between European Union member states.

    The US$117 million Talas de Maciel I onshore wind farm in Uruguay, being developed by Astidey S.A, has successfully reached financial close. Mott MacDonald was lenders’ technical advisor to the Export-Import Bank of the United States and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria Uruguay S.A. for the project and is now providing construction monitoring services in an ongoing role.

    Mott MacDonald has been named on a new four-year, £100 million multidisciplinary panel by The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). The panel will be used by a wide range of public sector bodies, including local authorities, central government departments and NHS Trusts, to procure a wide range of technical services required to support the construction and development of homes and other facilities.

  • MEASAT-3b satellite ready to enter service

    MEASAT, a premium supplier of satellite communication services in Asia, has successfully completed in orbit testing of its MEASAT-3b satellite launched from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. Since 2012 Mott MacDonald has provided technical advice on the project, which reached financial close in May 2014.

    Mott MacDonald has supported Merseytravel – the strategic transport advisor to the Liverpool City Region’s Combined Authority - in the development of a new visionary 30-year rail strategy. Working closely with Merseytravel and Network Rail, the consultancy researched, developed and authored the final strategy document. The report seeks to maximise the role that the local rail network can make in securing the economic prosperity of the region, which includes the City of Liverpool and the districts of Wirral, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens and Halton.

    Mott MacDonald has been reappointed as support service provider by the Highways Agency (HA) for the centralised maintenance depot terminal equipment (CMDTE) system. The consultancy will manage the ongoing operation of the system which supports the HA’s emergency roadside telephones (ERT) placed along the motorway and trunk road network in England.

  • Mott MacDonald and ADP to restore Spanish City in Whitley Bay, UK

    Mott MacDonald and ADP have been appointed by North Tyneside Council to provide all architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering design services for the repair, renovation and rehabilitation of the Spanish City in Whitley Bay, UK. The council secured a £3.7 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), with £182,700 awarded so far to progress the project. Mott MacDonald and ADP will now develop detailed proposals to secure further HLF funding.

  • Speyside biomass power station receives £74 million funding, UK

    The £74 million Speyside biomass power station in Moray, Scotland has been guaranteed £48 million of finance by the UK government. International infrastructure investor John Laing and the Green Investment Bank are to invest the remaining £26 million. Mott MacDonald is lenders’ technical advisor for the project.

    Whitmore Park Primary School has opened a new primary education facility on its existing site in Coventry, UK. The project is the first to be completed under the government’s £2.4 billion Priority Schools Building Programme. Mott MacDonald is providing technical advisory and cost consultancy services to the Education Funding Agency (EFA) which is implementing the programme.

  • Science Central CEEQUAL award

    Science Central in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, has been presented with a CEEQUAL ‘Excellent’ design award at the Institution of Civil Engineers awards dinner. The project, which is being delivered by Newcastle Science City, achieved a score of 77.3% for improving sustainability in civil engineering, infrastructure, landscaping and public realm. Mott MacDonald is lead designer for phase one infrastructure.

    Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Energos to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for a 90,000 t/annum energy from waste plant in Milton Keynes, UK.

    The Mott MacDonald Grontmij joint venture (MMG JV) has been awarded the technical assurance role for the A160/A180 Port of Immingham improvement scheme near Grimsby, UK.

  • Dawlish railway line

    The storm damaged railway line at Dawlish in south Devon, England, has reopened following emergency repair work. The line, which connects the south west of England to the rest of the United Kingdom, was wrecked in early February when massive waves left the track dangling in mid-air. Mott MacDonald provided project management and cost control services to Network Rail during the track reinstatement.

    Mott MacDonald provided key technical, regulatory and environmental advisory services to Balfour Beatty Investments, facilitating their successful acquisition of the high voltage transmission link for the 504MW Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm located off the coast of Suffolk.

  • Environment Agency flood modelling

    Mott MacDonald’s innovative approach to flood modelling has enabled the Environment Agency of England and Wales to improve the accuracy of warnings during recent tidal surge events. Flood scenario risk maps and improved real-time forecasting and warning tools were recently used for emergency planning and evacuation exercises along 220km of the east coast between South Ferriby on the Humber Estuary and Hunstanton on the Wash.

    Construction has begun on the £56 million Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS) in Doncaster, UK. Mott MacDonald is acting as project manager and providing technical support to Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council during construction.

  • Mott MacDonald to support Environment Agency with reservoir risk designations

    Mott MacDonald has been appointed to support the Environment Agency’s national reservoir safety team in assigning provisional risk designations for all 1950 large raised reservoirs in England. The project falls under Lot 1 of the Environment Agency’s new Water and Environment Management Framework. The consultancy was named on Lots 1, 3 and 4 of the framework earlier this year.

  • Mott MacDonald completes design for Welsh hotel expansion, UK

    Mott MacDonald has completed the design for the refurbishment and expansion of Harlech Castle Hotel in Wales, UK on behalf of Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service. The development is one of 24 schemes to benefit from Cadw’s £19 million Heritage Tourism Project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

  • £36 million Clacton and Holland-on-Sea coastal defence scheme gets go ahead

    The £36 million Clacton and Holland-on-Sea coastal protection scheme, to be designed by Mott MacDonald, has been given the go ahead by the Environment Agency. It is the second largest sea defence project in the country and will cover a 5km stretch from Clacton Pier to Holland Haven, protecting nearly 3,000 homes for the next 100 years.

    Cambridge Education, part of the Mott MacDonald Group, has been appointed to provide educational services to Slough Borough Council, the borough’s schools and educational settings. The appointment will last initially for three years and has the potential to be extended for a further two years.

  • Mott MacDonald appointed design engineer by Sutton and East Surrey Water Plc

    Mott MacDonald has been appointed design engineer by Sutton & East Surrey Water (SESW) for the upgrade of the Woodmansterne water treatment works in Surrey, UK. The plans are designed to enable the treatment works to deliver up to 50Ml/d of treated water into the supply network, helping enhance supply resilience to the 655,000 population served by the company.
