Turn2us is the national charity that helps people in financial hardship across the UK and Ireland. We provide help which allows people to gain better access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and other kinds of support, and work with partners and volunteers so they can provide face-to-face assistance to those that need us most. Last year 3.9 million individuals used our Turn2us.org.uk website and we received over 94,000 calls to our helpline. We also awarded around £3 million direct grants to over 4800 people through our Elizabeth Finn Fund which helped those struggling afford the basics such as home repairs, disability equipment or other day-to-day living expenses.
Turn2us was founded in 1897 as the Distressed Gentlefolks’ Aid Association, and though we’ve come a long way since then, we’re have always stayed true to our mission of supporting people living in poverty across the UK and Ireland. There are many reasons why people experience financial hardship such as bereavement, job loss, family breakdown or ill health. We believe that whatever the circumstances, no one should have to have to go without a decent meal or live in a cold home simply because they can’t afford the bare essentials. Our role is to support the issues that affect those that we support and we do this through giving practical support. We also strive to work with opinion formers and policy makers across the political divide to ensure that the experiences of those whom we work with can improve the lives of anyone living in financial hardship.
