BVA launches new 'voice of the veterinary profession' survey panel

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has launched a new survey panel which will give vets a unique opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences of working in the profession.

BVA members who sign up for the ‘Voice of the veterinary profession’ panel will answer regular online surveys throughout the year on important animal health and welfare topics and the daily lives of UK vets. BVA will then use these statistics to promote positive media stories and counter some of the ill-informed negative press about the profession.

The first 15-minute survey has been sent to all BVA members working in the UK along with an invitation to join the panel and undertake future research. It covers a wide range of topics, including pressing animal health issues, vets as consumers, the future of the profession and clients who rely on the internet rather than their vet.

The total commitment for panel members will be less than an hour each year. When the results are available later this summer they will be used to promote the profession and the issues BVA members care about in the media.

BVA President and vet Robin Hargreaves said:

“I’m excited to announce the launch of our new BVA ‘Voice of the veterinary profession’ survey panel and invite members to join up and share their views.

“Our latest membership survey ‘Your BVA, Your Say’ told us that members want BVA to be at the forefront of media and political debates championing the views of the veterinary profession.

“One of the most important benefits of being a member of BVA is that we are here to defend and promote the profession.

“As a BVA Officer I’m often asked to take part in media interviews to defend the profession and I know that the information we gain via the surveys will be invaluable to me in getting the message across about the value of vets.

“I really hope our members will agree that this is a great opportunity to help BVA promote our profession and will spare us an hour to make it a success.”
