Government funding boost for adoption services
Darren Johnson, Operational Director for Fostering, Adoption Permanency at Action for Children, today welcomed the announcement that an extra £16million will be made available to help the 4,000 children in care who are waiting for an adoptive family.
“Today's announcement is an excellent step forward, and clear recognition from the Government that action is needed to tackle the current backlog of thousands of children in the care system who are waiting for loving, permanent homes.
“Through our own services, that find adoptive parents for children in care, we know that innovative approaches can help to ensure that children are placed with families that can support their needs and offer them much-needed stability. Today's funding will help ensure that this becomes a reality for more children, who have faced a very difficult start in life.
“It is essential that we continue with in-depth assessments of prospective adopters; if this work is put in initially, we can help to create a happy future for both a child and their new family.”
