RHA Scottish Conference – 10 September, Hampden Park, Glasgow
2014 looks set to be a big year for Scotland; and for Scottish hauliers, it will be very busy indeed. 28-30 June will see the biggest ever re-enactment of the Battle of Bannockburn at Bannockburn Live.
From 23 July – 2 August Scotland will host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 26-28 September will see thousands of people descend upon Gleneagles for the Ryder Cup and if that were not enough excitement, next year will see Scotland welcome the rest of the world as it celebrates the Scottish Year of Homecoming; a year-long programme of events and activities to showcase all that's great about Scotland.
To start the wheels rolling we are presenting the RHA Scottish Conference at Glasgow’s Hampden Park on Tuesday, 10 September. This is a free event that will focus on Scottish hauliers and the country’s haulage industry.
The referendum on Scottish independence will inevitably be at the top of the day’s agenda and we are pleased that Scotland’s Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP and Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party, Anas Sarwar MP have both agreed to attend and put forward their views. We will also be welcoming John Fryer from Glasgow 2014 who will be talking about the Commonwealth Games transport strategy and Hugh Gilles of Transport Scotland who will give an overview of keeping Scotland moving during all the above mentioned events. We’re also pleased to welcome the Head of Road Policing Superintendent Iain Murray from Police Scotland whose presentation will include details of the road safety strategy for the A9
“Next year is going to be massive for this country,” said RHA Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Phil Flanders. “These events represent the perfect opportunity to showcase all that is good about Scotland and will also provide a tremendous boost to the Scottish economy. However, the success of all these events will rely heavily on a logistic network that is able to deliver.
“I can guarantee that operators attending the RHA’s Scottish Conference will have a better understanding of what to expect during the biggest logistic exercise this country has ever seen”.
