Strike at Briar Chemicals Norwich back on as GMB members reject latest pay offer
Industrial action short of a strike with begin again immediately and Shop Stewards will meet early next week to decide the dates for full strike action says GMB
A strike by 124 GMB members at Briar Chemicals in Norwich is back on as a formal ballot produced a rejection of the latest pay offer.
GMB members working in all parts of the plant are seeking modest percentage pay rise and have already rejected earlier offers. They voted to reject the final offer of an unconsolidated one-off payment and a one-off bonus payment without strings and the company dropped it demand for a new "Agreement of Intent" and a new Substantive Agreement by April 2014.
Ivan Mercer, GMB Organiser said,
“I have informed the company that GMB members have voted in an official ballot to reject the company's latest pay offer. The offer of a one off payment simply was not enough.
"Industrial action short of a strike with begin again immediately. GMB Shop Stewards at the company will meet early next week to decide the dates for full strike action.”
