MIMA comments on the Labour manifesto

Mineral Wool Insulation Manufacturers Association

MIMA broadly welcomes the Labour manifesto’s Sustainable Energy pledges and their commitment to recognising buildings energy efficiency as infrastructure.

Whilst there are good intentions with the manifesto commitments, we would like to better understand the specifics and timeline for insulating 4 million homes, how and where the funding will be raised, and what fiscal measures will be proposed to complement and support measures such as the zero percent loans for homeowners.

MIMA as part of the Energy Efficiency Infrastructure Group (EEIG) has commissioned a report by economics consultancy, Frontier Economics due for publication in summer 2017 which provides the policy answers to the energy efficiency challenges that the UK faces.  The report provides a practical and cost-effective blueprint for UK government policy making on energy in buildings to keep energy costs in British homes and businesses down, by delivering a buildings energy infrastructure programme which brings 20 million homes up to EPC Band C by 2035.

MIMA would also seek assurance that any pledges would ensure an enabling and sustainable business environment for the very mineral wool insulation businesses which will help to deliver these manifesto commitments.  MIMA member businesses are committed to the highest standards and best practice to inspire consumer confidence and therefore require policy, regulatory and fiscal certainty going forward.
