New appointments this week in UK politics, civil service and public affairs

Dods People draws together a list of this week's appointments in Westminster politics, all the devolved administrations and the public affairs sector.


Houses of Parliament:

House of Lords

Lord Macdonald of River Glaven was Liberal Democrat, now sits as non-affiliated.

Lord Patel of Bradford was Labour, now sits as non-affiliated.

Lord Crickhowell (Conservative, Life Peer) died on 17th March.

Lord Richard (Labour, Life Peer) died on 18th March.

House of Commons

Backbench Business Committee – Nigel Mills added as a member, Robert Courts discharged.

Procedure Committee - Edward Leigh became a member.

 

Government Departments:

Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Planning Inspectorate – Trudi Elliot appointed as the new independent Chair of the Board.

Cabinet Office

Committee on Standards in Public Life – Shirley Pearce appointed as a member for five years.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

NneNne Iwuji-Eme has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Mozambique in succession to Joanna Kuenssberg, from July.

Cat Evans has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Mali and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Niger in succession to Alice Walpole.

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Sea Fish Industry Authority - Brian Young to become Chair, he had been in the role on an interim basis.

Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

Heritage Lottery Fund/National Heritage Memorial Fund - Peter Luff reappointed as Chair until 2021. Maria Adebowale- Schwarte, Claire Feehily, Sarah Flannigan, Rene Olivieri and David Stocker appointed as Trustees of the Board.

UK Sport – John Dowson reappointed as a member until 2021.

HM Treasury

Royal Mint Advisory Committee – Edmund de Waal reappointed for five years.

 

Parties:

Labour Party

Jenny Formby appointed as General Secretary.

John Stolliday resigned as Director of Governance.

Simon Jackson resigned as Director of Policy and Research.

Dan Simpson resigned as Acting Parliamentary Labour Party Secretary.

Neil Fleming resigned as Acting London Regional Director.

Devolved Authorities:

Scottish Government

Gillian Imery to succeed Derek Penham as HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary in Scotland.

Scottish Police Authority - David Crichton, Gordon Dewar, Martyn Evans, Tom Halpin, Michelle Miller, Mary Pitcaithly and Jane Ryder appointed as members.

Local Authorities:

By-election Results 22nd March

Midlothian Council – Joe Wallace elected for Penicuik – SNP gain from Labour. (Adam Montgomery died).

Cheshire East Council – Chris Green elected for Bunbury – Conservative hold. (Michael Jones disqualified for not attending meetings in six months).

Staffordshire Moorlands Council – Bill Cawley elected for Leek West – Labour gain from Conservative. (Robert Plant died).

Bassetlaw Council – Clayton Tindle elected for Worksop South-East – Labour hold. (Deirdre Foley resigned).

Aylesbury Vale Council – Waheed Raja elected for Central and Walton – Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative. (Edward Sims resigned).

Chiltern Council – Nick Southworth elected for Ridgeway – Conservative gain from Independent. (Derek Lacey died).

Thurrock Council – Andrew Jefferies elected for Ockendon – Conservative gain from UKIP. (Kevin Wheeler resigned).

City of London Corporation – John Allen-Petrie elected for Billingsgate – Independent gain from Independent. (Michael Welbank resigned).

Industry

Interest Groups

National Union of Students - Union of Students in Ireland - Olivia Potter Hughes re-elected as President.

Teenage Cancer Trust – Kate Collins promoted to become Chief Executive.

Livability – Helen England to join as Chief Executive, replacing Dave Webber on 10th April.

Anne Frank Trust UK – Tim Robertson appointed as Chief Executive.

Paces – Spencer Pitfield appointed as Chief Executive, he had previously been in the role on an interim basis.

Pro Bono Economics – Clare Thorp appointed as Director of Public Affairs.
