David Lammy files police report over email warning he could 'face the same fate as Jo Cox'

David Lammy has made a complaint to the police after receiving a racist email warning he could "suffer the same fate" as Jo Cox.

On Tuesday the Labour MP for Tottenham tweeted an image of the message from a sender identified as 'Dave Hall'.

The message claims to be a "friendly warning" and says Mr Lammy is trying to "attack the white population".

A spokesman for the long-serving MP said the matter had been reported to the police, while Mr Lammy himself insisted attempts at intimidation would not put him off his work.

"If this is meant to be a subtle way of intimidating me, scaring me or stopping me raising important issues as an elected representative it isn’t going to work,” he wrote.

In a follow-up tweet Mr Lammy thanked people who had offered him support over the incident.

The former minister made headlines in September with the publication of his report on institutional bias in the justice system.

The Government has said it will look to implement all 35 of his recommendations, although Justice Secretary David Lidington stopped short of backing a scheme to increase diversity in the judiciary.
