New appointments this week in UK politics, the civil service and public affairs

Government changes:

David Davis resigned as Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union.

Boris Johnson resigned as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

Steve Baker resigned as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union.

Conor Burns resigned as PPS to the Foreign Secretary.

Chris Green resigned as PPS to the Secretary of State for Transport.

 

Jeremy Hunt named as the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (formerly Secretary of State for Health).

Matt Hancock named as the Secretary of State for Health. (formerly Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport).

Jeremy Wright named as the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (formerly Attorney General).

Dominic Raab named as the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union (formerly Minister of State for Housing).

Geoffrey Cox named as the Attorney General.

Kit Malthouse named as Minister of State for Housing (formerly Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Family Support, Housing and Child Maintenance).

Justin Tomlinson named as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Work and Pensions.

Chris Heaton-Harris named as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union (formerly Government Whip).

Houses of Parliament:

House of Lords

Lord Carrington (Conservative, Life Peer) died 9th July.

Lord Fearn (Liberal Democrat, Life Peer) retired 11th July.

Baroness Boycott (Crossbench, Life Peer) entered the House of Lords on 9th July.

Lord Anderson of Ipswich (Crossbench, Life Peer) entered the House of Lords on 10th July.

House of Commons

Jared O'Mara MP (Sheffield, Hallam) has resigned the Labour whip.

European Scrutiny Committee – Martyn Day replaced Douglas Chapman as a member.

Public Accounts Committee – Douglas Chapman replaced Martyn Day as a member.

Government Departments:

Cabinet Office

Social Mobility Commission – Martina Milburn endorsed to become Chair.

Department for Transport

High Speed 2 Ltd – Terry Morgan appointed as Chair.

Victoria and Albert Museum – Kavita Puri appointed as a Trustee.

 

 

Ministry of Justice

Prison Service Pay Review Body - Leslie Manasseh reappointed to the body.

National Citizen Service Trust - Brett Wigdortz appointed as Chair.

Sport England - Rashmi Becker appointed to the Board as a Trustee.

2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee - John Crabtree appointed as Chair.

HM Treasury

Office for Budget Responsibility – Andy King to be appointed to be a lead member of the committee.

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

UK Space Agency Steering Board - David Southwood has been reappointed as Chair.

Ben Bradley resigned as Vice-Chair for Youth.

Maria Caulfield resigned as Vice-Chair for Women.

Mike Amesbury as Shadow Employment Minister

Justin Madders as Shadow Labour Minister (maternity cover for Laura Pidcock, continues as Shadow Minister for Health and Social Care).

Hartlepool Council – Mike Young elected for Rural West – Conservative hold. (Ray Martin-Wells resigned).

Darlington Council – Eddie Heslop elected for Cockerton – Labour hold. (David Regan died).

Barnsley Council – Jo Newing elected for Old Town – Labour hold. (Anita Cherryholme resigned).

Rutland Council – Richard Alderman elected for Oakham South West – Independent gain from Conservative. (Richard Clifton resigned).

Elmbridge Council - David Lewis elected for Oxshott and Stoke d’Abernon – Conservative hold. (James Vickers resigned).      

Lewes Council – Nancy Bikford elected for Chailey and Wivelsfield –  Conservative hold. (Cyril Sugarman resigned).

East Dorset Council – Colin Beck elected for Verwood East – Conservative hold. (Boyd Mortimer died).

Norfolk Council – Ed Connolly elected for Yare and All Saints – Conservative hold. (Cliff Jordan resigned).

Waveney Council – Melanie Vigo di Gallidoro elected for Pakefield – Conservative gain from Labour. (Sonia Barker resigned).

Waveney Council – David Beavan elected for Southwold and Reydon – Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative. (Sue Allen died).
