Immigration system locking vital talent out of the country - KPMG

KPMG LLP

1 min read

Commenting on Government plans to relax the immigration cap, Punam Birly, Employment & Immigration Partner at KPMG UK said:

“UK plc will hope this announcement signals a more business friendly immigration system is on the way.  At present our Tier 2 visa system is locking some vital talent out of the country, just when we need it most.  It also prioritises those with higher earnings over those with the most valuable skills.

“Many large employers have hundreds of specialists waiting to enter the UK and support their customers and clients.  This can’t be good for the competitiveness of UK companies.

“The last six months have seen the Tier 2 visa system over-subscribed like never before as business scramble to get the talent they need in place.  The immigration professionals I speak to all lament the lack of predictability and pragmatism in our current system.”
