Anne-Marie spoke about the Triple Win report that was co-authored by the APSRG and the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group, and its findings.

On Wednesday September 16th, Anne-Marie Benoy, the All-Party Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group’s Senior Researcher, was invited to speak at the RWM exhibition’s Circular Economy Connect theatre.

Anne-Marie spoke about the Triple Win report that was co-authored by the APSRG and the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group, and its findings. She discussed how research suggested that 50% of manufacturers were not aware of remanufacturing or its potential in the market, the savings they could make and the carbon footprint they could cut.
Anne-Marie spoke about the need to raise awareness on this matter, as education will ultimately result in increased research and development in the sector, investment and ultimately lead to the reduction of products being recycled, incinerated or sent to landfill.

The remanufacturing sector in the UK is currently estimated at a worth of £2.4bn, with potential to double that, if not more as developments grow. This linked to the panel’s discussion around the potential for the UK to become a leader in the remanufacturing division, something which was also echoed in the Q&A session at the APSRG follow-up conference to the Triple Win launch earlier this month.

Part of this leadership opportunity includes legally defining remanufacturing, as this will cement the sector’s position in British markets and encourage international trades. Alongside this, learning more about all kinds of remanufacturing activities outside the well-known automotive trade will also open up trade opportunities.

Anne-Marie closed by saying that traditional waste companies have extensive experience and skills in the industry which already act as an excellent platform from which to upskill the sector and that education and knowledge sharing is key to this.
