On the comments made by Emma Reynolds MP, shadow housing minister, indicating that Labour would increase the ease with which councils could license private landlords, Emma Apter, Head of Communications at Electrical Safety First said:

“Increasing the ease with which private landlords can be licensed could be crucial to improving the standards of the PRS and we therefore welcome any proposed legislative changes that would allow this to happen.

“The Shadow Housing Minister’s comments are in line with Electrcial Safety First’s own work on licensing in the private rented sector (PRS), reflected in our “House Proud” report, co-authored with the Local Government Intelligence Unit (LGIU), in which we have recommended that councils be given the freedom and capacity to respond to the housing needs of their own local area.”
