Improve apprenticeship completion rates, but not by reducing standards

Chartered Insurance Institute

1 min read Partner content

With Lord Lennie today asking the Government how it intends to improve the completion rate of apprenticeships, the Chartered Insurance Institute has issued the following comment:

"The Government should not simply focus on the number of apprenticeship starts – completion rates are vitally important. At present the number of non-completions is too high and the Chartered Insurance Institute is keen to see how Government intends to tackle this issue. There needs to be support for both the apprentice and the employer, and there certainly should not be any move to reduce standards to help improve figures. Standards are key to improving the image of apprenticeships. It is vital that young people are equipped with skills, knowledge and behaviour required for future career."
