LOS ANGELES (November 10, 2023) – In honor of Veteran’s Day this November 11, Ghost Machine is releasing a special JUNKYARD JOE t-shirt with all sales proceeds benefitting Veterans Aid (UK) and the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (in Washington, D.C.) two leading charitable organisations committed to ending veteran homelessness. JUNKYARD JOE, created by writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank, tells the story of a mysterious robot soldier and the cartoonist who he believes created him. Expanding the universe of heroes known as THE UNNAMED, Junkyard Joe’s explosive adventure launched last year to critical acclaim. Junkyard Joe #1: Special Black & White Veterans Edition was dedicated to Johns’ grandfather and Franks’ grandparents, who served in WWII. The story strives to highlight veterans’ perspectives through a comic book lens, with the special veterans' edition raising awareness and funds in support of VA and the NCHV - the two charities received 100% of the proceeds with an additional $2 donated for each issue purchased. Johns and Frank are honored to continue their collaboration with VA and the NCHV through their new company, Ghost Machine.

Announced at last month’s New York Comic Con, Ghost Machine is a groundbreaking creator-owned and operated media company. The creators co-own all the characters and universes developed for their company, sharing in all publishing, media, merchandise, and beyond. The pioneering creator collective is a global best-of-class roster of artists and writers whose award-winning and iconic works include a who’s who of comic book legends such as Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, The Flash, The Ultimates, Black Lightning and Green Arrow: Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Geoff Johns, Lamont Magee, Francis Manapul, Brad Meltzer, Peter J. Tomasi, and Maytal Zchut.

About Veterans Aid

Veterans Aid (VA), now in its 91st year of continuous operations, provides immediate practical support to ex-servicemen and women in crisis; freely and without judgement, on the basis of a single day’s service in UK Armed Forces — regardless of age, ethnicity, rank, gender or length of service.

VA is a frontline, operational charity dealing with individuals who are often in utter despair. It responds to calls from UK veterans worldwide — and did so throughout the pandemic. Its unique Welfare to Wellbeing© pathway is one that takes individuals on whatever journey they need to resolve their crises and lead sustainable, independent lives. It enjoys a 90% success rate.

VA operates internationally from two London locations; an HQ/Operations Centre and a flagship residential facility called New Belvedere House. Its focus is on prevention, but where veterans are already homeless, suffering from addictions, alcoholism, health issues, debt, unemployment, the adverse consequences of social isolation or relationship breakdown its acts without delay.

About National Coalition For Homeless Veterans

The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) is the leading authority on homeless veterans’ issues and the only national organization solely focused on ending veteran homelessness. We work to achieve our mission by promoting collaboration, shaping policy, building service capacity, ensuring accountability, and managing a referral helpline for veterans experiencing and at-risk of homelessness.

We are the resource and technical assistance center for a national network of community-based service providers and local, state, and federal agencies that provide housing, employment services, case management, legal aid, and other supportive services to thousands of veterans experiencing or at-risk of homelessness each year.
