Moat residents set to benefit from nationwide house swapping scheme

Moat residents who want to move home are set to benefit from a new partnership with one of the UK’s leading online property exchange services, House Exchange. Residents will have free access to the House Exchange website which lists nearly a quarter of a million homes available for exchange from across the UK.

House Exchange houseexchange.org.uk, run by Circle Housing, is one of the UK’s leading not-for-profit property mutual exchange services. It pairs up prospective partners who want to switch homes across the UK and is the only service to offer instant matches as well as a unique three-way matching service.

Many social housing tenants who want to move find their options limited due to the short supply of affordable homes – especially when they’re focussed on a specific area or region. Demand has risen since April 2013 since the introduction of the ‘bedroom tax’ and other welfare changes.

Elizabeth Austerberry, Chief Executive of Moat, said: “Many of our residents want to move to secure better work opportunities or to live closer to family and friends but aren’t able to due to a lack of available housing in their areas of choice. In joining House Exchange we’re opening up opportunities and improving access to affordable housing. We’re really pleased to give our residents free access to House Exchange which compliments the service delivered by our other mutual exchange partners - also part of the government’s Home Swap Direct scheme.”

Kim Doran, Manager from House Exchange, added: “We’re delighted to have Moat as a partner. We know our service will be particularly useful for people who are looking to move for work or family, as well as those looking to downsize following changes to the welfare system. We look forward to supporting Moat residents with successful swaps!”
