New chief executive
Tony Rucinski, a former director of Scope and trustee of the RNIB, has become our new chief executive.
Tony's career spans the financial, higher education and third sectors with award winning, board level responsibility for strategy and service delivery on a national scale. He has held several government advisory positions and has significant experience in the sight loss sector, including serving as a Trustee on the RNIB Group Board. His specialist fields include leadership development and employment.
He is a trained mentor and business coach and speaks on these topics at conferences around the world. Tony is registered blind and is also an expert on accessible technology. Tony said:
"I believe in abundant life after sight loss, so it is a huge privilege to be working for the largest and best membership-led organisation in the sight loss sector.
"There's so much more to be done in terms of research and support around macula related eye conditions. Every day, the Macular Society makes a real difference in people's lives and I am tremendously excited about getting involved in increasing both the reach and the impact of this excellent work."
Helen Jackman, CEO since 2009, is relocating to Canada with her army helicopter pilot husband who has been transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force. Helen said:
"I am really sorry to be leaving the Macular Society at such an exciting time in its growth and development. However, it is wonderful to know that it will be in such good hands. Tony will take the Society to new heights to the good of everyone affected by this devastating condition."
Tony is a keen 10k runner and judo fan and lives with his wife and 4 children in Cardiff.
