Santander Corporate Commercial has appointed Peter Abel as the new Director of Growth Capital for the South West region.

Based at the Corporate Business Centre in Bristol, Peter will specialise in working with growing businesses with an annual turnover of up to £25million that are seeking growth capital finance to develop their next stage of business growth. He joins a 31-strong team in Bristol including sector and product specialists in Real Estate, Healthcare, Education, Asset, Invoice and Trade Finance.

Peter joined Santander in 2010, and has been working within the SME sector across the region for more than 20 years within both the accountancy and banking sectors. Growth Capital is a unique debt financing facility to the UK SME sector, focussed on supporting those businesses with a successful track record and ambitions of growth. It was launched in December 2011, providing fast growing entrepreneurial businesses with funding to support a variety of requirements including increasing working capital, strategic acquisitions, roll-out fulfilment or step change in sales and marketing activity.

Darren Hart, National Head of Growth Capital, said: “I am delighted to welcome Peter to our team. Santander Corporate Commercial has established itself as a major supporter of UK businesses and is committed to building long-lasting relationships with our customers so that we are able to provide tailored support at every stage of their business.

“We are committed to growing our relationship teams to provide this dedicated support for more local businesses as our own business continues to expand and grow. Peter Abel is an experienced local banker, committed to supporting businesses in the South West, and I am sure that his strong network of business and professional relationships will help us accelerate our plans to deliver further Growth Capital financing to support fast growth businesses across the region. I wish him every success in his new role.”
