WaterAid encourages MPs to join Jim Shannon's debate on Water and Sanitation in Africa, which will be held on Thursday 21st April at 1.30pm in Westminster Hall.

A huge thank you if you were one of the 100 MPs who helped highlight the importance of water and sanitation on World Water Day last month.

A huge thank you if you were one of the 100 MPs who helped highlight the importance of water and sanitation on World Water Day last month.  Following on from this, Jim Shannon MP has secured a debate on Water and Sanitation in Africa, which will be held on Thursday 21st April at 1.30pm in Westminster Hall.

Globally, 1 in 10 people still have no access to a safe water source, whilst 1 in 3 have no access to a toilet.

However, we know from our own history the impact that access to water and sanitation can have.  2015 marked 150 years since the creation of the UK’s pioneering sewage system, which triggered a public health transformation here in the UK. Therefore, we are delighted that this debate is taking place to highlight the urgent need for action globally.

We want to make sure this debate is as useful as possible in educating MPs on the issues around water and sanitation in Africa and how they can help. We hope to see as many MPs as possible attending.

Please email bethantwigg@wateraid.org if you have any questions, or would like to receive a briefing ahead of the debate.
