Houses of Parliament:

House of Lords

Earl of Devon elected in Crossbench hereditary peer’s by-election, replacing Earl Baldwin of Bewdley (retired), will be introduced to the House in due course.

 

Baroness Barran (Conservative), Baroness Bryan of Partick (Labour), Lord Haselhurst (Conservative) and Lord Garnier (Conservative) were introduced to the House.

 

House of Commons

Select Committee on International Trade – Stephanie Peacock discharged, Mark Hendrick appointed as a member.

Arms Export Controls Select Committee – Henry Smith discharged, Bob Seely appointed as a member.

 

Government Departments:

Prime Minister’s Office

Lord Ahmad appointed as Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to promote religious freedom.

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Leena Nair and Nigel Boardman appointed as non-executive board members at BEIS.

Committee on Radioactive Waste – Sir Nigel Thrift appointed as Chair.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Colin Cook appointed as HM’s Ambassador to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference – Zac Goldsmith appointed as Conference Champion (in conjunction with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Department for International Development).

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Board of the Consumer Council for Water - Robert Wilson and Alison Austin appointed as members.

Royal Botanic Gardens Kew – Krishnan Guru-Murthy appointed to board of trustees.

Department for International Trade

Andrew Mitchell appointed as HM Trade Commissioner for Europe.

Competition and Markets Authority – Julie Bon appointed as Deputy Chief Economic Adviser.

Alison Thewliss appointed spokesperson for Housing and Local Government, previously Spokesperson for Treasury and Cities.

Deidre Brock appointed Spokesperson for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, previously spokesperson for Devolved Government Relations, Northern Ireland and Fair Work and Employment.

Gavin Newlands appointed spokesperson for Northern Ireland and Wales, previously spokesperson for Sport.

Claudia Webbe elected as chair of the disputes panel overseeing disciplinary cases.

Adam Price and Rhun ap Iorweth have challenged Leanne Wood as party leader, triggering leadership contest.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service - Simon Routh-Jones appointed HM Chief Inspector.

Conservative Assembly Group – Paul Davies appointed interim leader.

John Blair elected as Alliance MLA for South Antrim, replacing David Ford.

Shropshire Council – Edward Bird elected for Shifnal South and Cosford – Conservative hold (Stuart West resigned).

Lichfield Council – Collin Ball elected for Curborough – Labour Gain (Jeanette Allsopp died).

Bath and North East Somerset Council – Sue Craig elected for Kingsmead – Liberal Democrat Gain (Chris Pearce died).
