WATCH: Nigel Farage says he could back ANOTHER EU referendum

Emilio Casalicchio

2 min read

Nigel Farage has said Britain could have a second EU referendum to silence Remain-supporting critics and “finish the whole thing off”.

The Ukip ex-leader said it could be the only way to stop figures like Tony Blair, Nick Clegg and Lord Adonis from “whinging and whining and moaning all the way through this process”.

His comments come as a shock after months of telling those bitter about the referendum result to back off because it was conclusive.

Asked about the possibility of a fresh vote on the Wright Stuff show on Channel 5, he said: “My mind is actually changing on this.”

“What is for certain is that the Cleggs, the Blairs, the Adonises will never ever ever give up,” he went on.

“They will go on whinging and whining and moaning all the way through this process so just maybe I’m reaching the point of thinking that we should have a second referendum on EU membership.

“I think if we had a second referendum on EU membership we’d kill it off for a generation. The percentage that would vote to leave next time would be very much bigger than it was last time round.”

He added: “We may well just finish the whole thing off and Blair can disappear off to total obscurity.”

Lord Mark Malloch Brown, the chair of anti-Brexit group Best for Britain, said: "Bring it on."

He added: "This is something that the country needs. Every day we see the disaster of Brexit it as we see it's impact on our economy, jobs, communities and our society.

"With these comments Nigel Farage is disowning the chaos that trying to leave the EU has wrought on this country. Him and his Brexiteer allies have zero idea of what would come next."

Mr Blair said earlier this month there should be a referendum on the final Brexit deal to give the public a chance to reject it if it fails to live up to what they were hoping for last year.

The Liberal Democrats are the chief party offering a second referendum as an official policy.
