Slimming World
Its programme combines the latest research and evidence on nutrition, physical activity and behaviour change psychology, helping members to lose weight and make sustainable lifestyle changes. It welcomes and supports individuals looking to lose weight, including people who choose to take weight loss medication or who have had bariatric surgery. Its in-person groups are run by more than 3,000 self-employed Consultants who’ve all been members themselves and so understand how people living with overweight and obesity feel – something that’s central to Slimming World’s approach.
This commitment to improving the nation’s health extends beyond its own membership. Slimming World works in partnership with government and health bodies, including the Better Health campaign, which saw more than 27,000 people join within its first six months.
Slimming World was also the first weight management organisation to collaborate with the NHS through its Slimming World on Referral scheme, enabling healthcare professionals to refer patients for structured support. Today, Slimming World continues to work with NHS Digital as a chosen provider for its national referral programme.
To ensure its services remain at the forefront of science and best practice, Slimming World collaborates with leading universities and obesity specialists on an active research programme. Recently published research in The Obesity Journal has shown that Slimming World is an effective and successful way to reach people with a weight management service.
