Mobile UK

Did you know that 2G and 3G networks are being phased out to make way for faster, more secure, more reliable and more energy-efficient 4G and 5G networks? 5G, for instance, is ten times more energy-efficient than 3G.

Some operators have already begun shutting down their networks, and all have committed to completely phasing out their 2G and 3G networks by 2033. Your mobile provider will contact you to let you know if you are affected and what steps to take.

To address any questions, you may have about the switch-off, we have produced an educational video presented by our Director of Policy and Communications, Gareth Elliott. In this video, Gareth explains why the switch-off is taking place, the benefits consumers will receive through stronger and more reliable networks, and more. You can watch this video here.

You can also find out more by reading our 2G/ 3G Switch Off guide available here.

For further information on the switch please get in touch with your operator
